Over A Century of Ministry
in Monterey
First Baptist Church of Monterey began in 1910 when a small group of believers, tired of traveling to Salinas, started gathering for prayer in their own city. That April, Bessie McKim organized a Sunday School for children, and by May, they held their first service with Reverend Walter Tanner as pastor.
Over a century later, we continue to serve the Monterey Peninsula. Throughout our history, thousands have heard the Gospel through our ministry, with hundreds baptized and discipled. We remain committed to the same biblical teaching and preaching that has defined us since our founding.
